To the kind reader of our sober clime
This way of writing will appear exotic;
Pulci was sire of the half-serious rhyme,Of dreams that moved through that enchanted clime
With changing breaths of rhyme,Or that all reason may at any time
Find a sufficient substitute in rhyme;In memory's ear in after time
Shall live, to sometimes rouse a tear,
And sometimes prompt an honest rhyme.And what is nature's order but the rhyme
Whereto the worlds keep time,And by her, trying to soothe her all the time,
The fatherless children, COLOUR, TUNE, and RHYMEAy, faint beginnings of a rhyme
That swells beyond the tides of time;Nor suffered one ill-chosen rhyme
To escape him at the idlest time;Golden than they, and which adorn our Rhyme,
As did rough pendants of barbaric ore
Some pillared temple of the olden time.An' now I've married Annie, an' I see her all the time,
I do not feel the daily need o' bustin' into rhyme.In all I write, shou'd Sense, and Witt, and Rhyme
Faile me at once, yet something soe Sublime,The thrusting cranks of Time,
Thro’ blaze and gloom, with crash and boom,
Ring in tremendous rhyme,That grand old wordless rhyme;
And still those two are swaying
In perfect tune and time.Made with no loss of time,
A prose kinema, not, not assuredly, alabaster
Or the "sculpture" of rhyme.Has vanish'd from my rhyme
Will I grey-gone in passion
Give to an after-timeSing somep'n fu' to pass de time,
Outsing de mockin'-bird,
You got de music an' de rhyme,And sing it rhyme upon rhyme
In mockery of a timeMonsters that lived in Gulfs of slime
With names that balk and baffle rhymeThis naughty action all in rhyme;
No food to have until the time,And I remember home and the old time,
The winding river, the white moving rhyme,
