And, like a harpstring ere it snaps,
The rigging sing beneath the caps;

Adorn their little laps
With ladysmock and violet,
And daisy-chain their caps;

And three youths in scarlet caps
Drinking chocolate and schnapps -

Beeswax--buckles--leather straps--
Bullets, and a box of caps,--

But they take off their caps
To the brave little Japs

Such mostly little caps,
That when you see them from afar
They make you think of Japs;
