"Till the foundations of the mountains fail
My mansion with its arbour shall endure;--
The joy of them who till the fields of Swale,

And like a spirit, swathed in some soft veil,
Steals twilight and its shadows o'er the swale.

Their hearts are with you: hill and dale
Have helped us: Ure we crossed, and Swale,

They have gone by the broken ridges, by mesa and hill and swale,
Nor once did the red deer falter, nor the feet of the runner fail;

beyond the blackened veil.
A penetrating vista
above my somber swale.

Over a shelving, many-fissured shale,
That brawls and blusters in its shallow bed,
And ends its course inglorious in a swale.

A lighted wood chip trail
Newly born, I newly saw
The lovely lowing swale
