Starkers! was a monthly naked club night held in London between 2003 and 2010. Starkers! was the first and only regular night of its kind in England which was not segregated by gender and was open to adults of all ages and of any sexual orientation. The dress code stipulated that both men and women must remove all articles of clothing upon entering and remain naked until leaving. The event was strict and universal in applying its undress code which extended to venue staff including the coat checkers, DJ and occasionally the bar staff. The concept of Starkers! emerged from the underground fetish and swinger scenes of East London in late 2003 when a nude barman employed at such an establishment launched the event after repeated suggestions from co-workers and club patrons. An early event was featured in an edition of H&E naturist magazine in 2004. Later in 2004 the event moved from its original home to a pub near Columbia Road in Bethnal Green where it rapidly gained cult status and a loyal following especially amongst members of the local gay community. After a brief hiatus following police action which prevented the club from continuing at its current home Starkers! relocated to a nightclub in Vauxhall. In the summer of 2006 the event moved once again this time to a large venue close to London Bridge where it rapidly expanded and entertained up to 400 "naked clubbers" every month. In 2007 the event was again forced to close down but this time because of the publication of a moral outrage story in a Scottish newspaper which prompted local licensing authorities to threaten the host venue.
